News this week: The Exhibition & Event Association of Australia (EEAA) announced the second project update on the redevelopment of Darling Harbour will take place next week on 23rd March 2012. The project update is intended to communicate the latest news, keys issues related to the timetable, impacts during construction and strategies for business continuity of the redevelopment.
The project, managed by Infrastructure NSW (INSW) on behalf of the New South Wales (NSW) Government, will cause closure of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre (SCEC) during some phases of the redevelopment. According to EEAA, auditing of the affected events during closure have been undertaken to identify alternative venues during those periods.
EEAA’s general manager, Joyce DiMascio, was quoted saying, “Infrastructure NSW, Destination NSW and Business Events Sydney are all keen to keep business in Sydney and working with exhibition and event organisers to find suitable alternative sites that will work and deliver clients a quality experience and organisers a financially viable outcome.”
Completion of the redevelopment is scheduled for 2016, which will feature a minimum of 40,000 m2 of exhibition space and flexible plenary space for at least 10,000 delegates.
