Sumatra to establish a CVB

News this week: Medan, the largest city on the Indonesian island of Sumatra is reportedly in the process of establishing the Medan Convention Bureau. The convention and visitor’s bureau (CVB) will help promote the domestic and regional MICE market on Sumatra. The Medan Municipal Government is reportedly in the process of establishing a board for the CVB as well as securing funding for the bureau.

Artur Batubara, executive director of the Sumatra Tourism Promotion Board, was quoted saying there are about 10 PCOs in Medan and two convention and exhibition halls that will open later this year – each featuring approximately 3,000 m2 of event space.

Medan is the largest city on Sumatra with a population of close to two million. It is also a key commercial centre with extensive domestic fight connections and direct fights to the major cities in the region including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Bangkok and Hong Kong.
