Macau MICE participants up, number of events down

News this week: Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DESC) has released its statistics on the MICE industry for the first quarter of 2011. The number of MICE participants in the quarter increased an impressive 42% rising from 89,000 in the first quarter of 2010 to 127,000 in the first quarter of this year. The number of events, however, dropped from 331 in the first quarter of last year to 267 this year – a 19% decrease.

Amongst all MICE events held in the quarter, 257 were meetings, down 20% from last year’s 322, while the number of participants at meetings decreased 17% to 28,040 compared to 34,000 in 2010. A total of ten exhibitions were held during the quarter – up from nine last year and the number of attendees at exhibitions jumped 77% from 56,000 to 99,000.
