News this week: Computex Taipei, Asia’s largest and the world’s second largest ICT show, was held from 31st May to 4th June at the Taipei World Trade Center, Nangang Exhibition Hall and the Taipei International Convention Center. Organised by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the event reported a total of 120,000 visitors. Computex hit a new high in terms of international visitors – just over 36,000, up 3.1% compared to last year’s edition. The top five visiting countries/regions were the U.S., Japan, China, Hong Kong and South Korea. According to TAITRA, the exhibition featured over 1,700 exhibitors occupying more than 5,300 booths this year.
TAITRA also stated that it now faces a shortage of venue space for Computex. The organiser claims that only 5,300 of the more than 6,000 requested booths were available. The Nangang Exhibition Hall expansion is not due to be complete until 2014. Meanwhile, TAITRA reports that it will look for alternative venues in the area to add an additional 500 booths at next year’s show and an additional 1,000 booths in 2013.
