Alibaba takes second in China’s online ad market

News this week: Beijing, 9th December: According to a report released by Analysys International, the Alibaba Group has passed Google to take second place in the Chinese online ad market– with Chinese search engine, Baidu occupying the number one spot.

The report states that Baidu leads by a comfortable margin with over 30% market share, followed by Alibaba Group in a distant second with 9.3%. Analysys attributes the increase primarily to the success of Alibaba’s B2C e-commerce platform Taobao. Google has dropped one place to third as it lost 2% market share from the second quarter this year. Google now holds a 8.9% share, with Internet portal Sina’s very close behind in fourth with 8.89%.

Analysys’ data also showed that Baidu’s share of revenues from China’s online search market rose to 73% in the third quarter, up 3% points from the previous quarter.
